昨日の夜から、千葉県では記録的な大雨が続いています。
各地でかなりの被害が出ているというニュースを耳にし、胸が痛む思いです。
今はちょうどお盆の時期。日本には、先祖たちが一年に一回この世に帰ってくると言われる風習があります。メキシコなどにも似た文化があるようですね。この時期は多くの方が実家に帰省し、まさにUターンラッシュの真っ只中です。千葉県は東京に近いため、地方から出てきている方も多く、今回の影響で成田空港では何千人もの方々が足止めとなっているようです。
私が子供の頃は、日本には四季があり、夏も今ほど過酷な暑さではなく、過ごしやすい季節でした。
しかし、ここ数十年で状況は大きく変わりました。夏は命に関わるような猛暑、冬は暖冬といったように、四季という言葉の重みが変わってきているように感じます。
地球そのものが変わってきているのか、あるいは災害への備えが追いつかないほど激しくなっているのか……。テレビをつけるたびに増える災害のニュースを見るたび、ただただ心が痛みます。
一日も早くこの雨が上がり、帰省されている方々が安全に過ごせるよう、そしてこれ以上の被害が出ないよう心から願っています。
Record-breaking Rain in Chiba and the Homecoming Rush
From last night, Chiba Prefecture has been hit by record-breaking heavy rain. My heart goes out to those affected, as reports indicate significant damage across the region.
We are currently in the Obon season, a time when it is believed that the spirits of our ancestors return to this world once a year. It is a tradition similar to those found in countries like Mexico. Consequently, many people are currently returning to their hometowns, and the country is in the middle of a massive U-turn rush. Since Chiba is close to Tokyo, many people from various regions are affected, and thousands are reportedly stranded at Narita Airport.
When I was a child, Japan truly had four distinct seasons. Summer was not as brutally hot as it is today; it was a more comfortable time of year. However, over these past few decades, everything has changed. We face scorching summers and increasingly mild winters, making me feel as though the very definition of our “four seasons” is slipping away.
I often wonder if the Earth itself is changing, or if the scale of natural disasters has simply become too intense for us to keep up with. Every time I watch the news and see another disaster, it pains me deeply.
I sincerely hope that this rain stops as soon as possible, that everyone traveling can find safety, and that no further damage occurs.
